Regarded as an internationally important archaeological location, Kilmartin Museum is nearing the end of multi-million pound transformation.
ɬ Council is supporting the project led by the Kilmartin Museum Company with £400,000 of funding to help with the redevelopment. In addition, the council also accessed £275,000 from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Scheme for the £7 million project.
Currently closed to the public whilst refurbishment works take place, the museum will reopen during the summer.
On a recent visit to look at the progress made, Councillor Alastair Redman, Policy Lead for Economic Growth and Communities said:
“Kilmartin Glen and Museum are incredibly important to ɬ and the wider area attracting visitors from all over the world. The transformation is quite staggering and I want to congratulate everyone involved in creating a superb visitor attraction for ɬ.
We’re pleased to support this charity-led project and can’t wait for the state-of-the-art museum to showcase some of the most important archaeological artefacts found in Argyll. It’s a great boost to the local economy.”
