ɬ Council is offering residents the opportunity to make their homes more energy efficient through a grant scheme funded by the Scottish Government.
The council has received over £2 million from the Scottish Government’s Energy Efficient Scotland - Area Based Scheme to help householders make a range of energy efficiency improvements to their properties including external wall insulation, underfloor and loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
The 2025/2026 programme can offer non-means tested grants of between £9500 and £21,600 per household dependant on individual circumstances, and is available to:
- Owner-occupiers and privately rented Tenants living in properties in Council Tax Bands A, B and C.
- Owner-occupiers living in properties in Council Tax Band D if they have a household energy rating of E, F or G.
- For Owner-occupiers on islands, in addition to the above, living in properties in Council Tax Band E to H if they have a household energy rating of E, F or G.
The Council’s Policy Lead for Housing, Councillor Jim Lynch said:
“I don’t think people realise that their home could benefit from a range of energy efficiency improvements through the scheme - in most cases at no cost to themselves.
Hundreds of homes in ɬ have already benefitted from warmer, more energy efficient homes, and as a result making substantial savings per year on expensive fuel costs. This in turn helped to play a vital part in creating a climate friendly ɬ by reducing carbon emissions through these measures.
Fuel poverty is a real concern and with heating costs a major concern to householders I would urge people to take advantage of this non-means tested scheme while it is available and to get in touch to see how it could benefit them.”
Home Energy Scotland is the Referral Partner for the Scheme and will carry out an estimate of household energy ratings and make a referral on behalf of householder to the scheme. In addition, they will also offer a very welcome general energy saving assessment.
