Ulva Primary School has received an excellent report for learning, teaching and assessment following an inspection by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIe).
Inspectors praised the ‘outstanding leadership of the headteacher, very well supported by the principal teacher, in improving learning experiences for all children where children benefit from very extensive opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in meaningful, real-life contexts.’
During the inspection earlier this year, inspectors noted the school’s exemplary approaches to learning for sustainability and outdoor learning and that children are ‘passionate, engaged campaigners who relish the opportunity to learn about their natural environment’.
They also commended the children for being polite and welcoming, while demonstrating the school’s values of being kind, respectful and hard-working.
Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education:
“Well done to everyone at Ulva Primary School for such a positive report, it’s a fantastic achievement to receive an excellent rating. It’s clear from the feedback in the report that staff are working hard to provide positive and fun learning experiences for the children in their care.
The council’s Education Strategy is clear in our ambition to give children the best possible start on their education journey. I’m delighted that the positive ethos and high standards of the school community is having such a positive impact on the children, which is evident with high levels of attainment and achievement. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work, you should be incredibly proud.”
Susie Carmichael, Headteacher at Ulva Primary School:
“We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of our recent Education Scotland HMI Inspection for Ulva Primary School. We are so pleased and proud to have received such positive feedback, including an ‘E泦Գ’ rating for Learning, Teaching and Assessment.
They say that it takes a village to raise a child — and in the same way, it has taken our whole school community to achieve such a wonderful report.
A massive thank you goes to our pupils, staff, parents, carers, partners, and everyone at our joint school, Lochdonhead Primary, for contributing to this special success. This achievement truly reflects the strength of our school community and the shared effort of everyone involved.”
