Island residents in ɬ who receive a Council Tax reduction may qualify for help with electricity costs this winter, thanks to the Scottish Government’s Island Cost of Crisis Emergency Fund.
ɬ Council received £145,000 from the fund to support island communities and is focusing this assistance on energy costs during the colder months.
To deliver this support, the council has partnered with local energy charity ALIenergy to offer a £77 payment to eligible applicants towards electricity costs, alongside their free energy advice service.
This support is only available for a limited time—register with ALIenergy by the end of February 2026 to benefit.

Councillor Jim Lynch, the council’s Policy Lead for Economic Development, Islands and Rural Communities, Housing, said: “Heating your home in the winter can be an extremely challenging time for households, especially with rising energy costs. This funding is here to make a real difference and help ease the pressure on family budgets.
