Traffic Regulation Orders

Traffic regulation orders are legal orders put in place to control speed, movement and parking of vehicles and control pedestrian movement on our roads. New Quay Street - From its junction with Hall Street in a southernly direction to its junction with Kilkerran Road a distance of 50 metres or thereby.

Stewart Road - From its junction with St John Street in a south easterly direction to its junction with Argyll Street a distance of 90 metres or thereby.

St John Street - From junction with Shore Street in an south easterly direction to its junction with Stewart Road a distance of 230 metres or thereby.

Argyll Street - From its junction with Ramsay Place in a southerly direction to its junction with New Quay Street a distance of 210 metres or thereby.

New Quay Street - From its junction with Argyll Street in a northerly direction to its junction with Kirk Street a distance of 100 metres or thereby.

Glebe Street - From its junction with Burnside in a northerly direction to its junction with Gengyle Road a distance of 500 metres or thereby.

ÓûÂþɬ Council (Special Event)(Harbour Street, Tarbert)(Temporary prohibition of traffic) Order 2025 That length of the A8015 Harbour Street, Tarbert from its junction with School Road to its junction with Castle Street, a distance of 100 metres or thereby, in order to facilitate the holding of a Seafood Festival 0900 and 2000 hours on Saturday 5th July 2025
ÓûÂþɬ Council (Mossfield Avenue, Oban)(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic)(No.2) Order 2025 That length of Mossfield Avenue, Oban, from its junction with Mossfield Drive, extending in a southerly direction to its junction of Glencruitten Drive a distance of 90 metres  0900 on 5th June 2025 to 1800 on 17th July 2025

  • Argyll Road - From its junction with Shore Road in a westerly direction to its junction with School Road a distance of 1.64 metres or thereby
  • Donaldson Brae - From its junction with Argyll Road in a southerly direction to its junction with Shore Road a distance of 460 metres or thereby
  • Shore Road - From junction with Schol Road in an easterly direction to its junction with Argyll Road a distance of 1.81 metres or thereby

ÓûÂþɬ Council (A886 Ettrickdale, Rothesay)(Temporary 40mph Speed Limit) Order 2025 That length of the A886 Kames Castle - Rhubodach Road from a point 210 metres east of its junction with Ettrickdale Road in a north easterly direction for a distance of 300 metres or thereby 2nd May 2025 until 0800 hours on 11th November 2026 
ÓûÂþɬ Council (Avenvogie-Cluanach Road, Islay)(Temporary Restriction (No.2) Order 2025 That length of the Avenvogie-Cluanach Road, as carried by Kilennan Bridge from a point 10 metres west of bridge to a point 10 metres northeast of bridge for a distance of 40 metres  1100 hours on the 1st April 2025 and will remain in operation until 2359 hours on the 1st  September 2025 
ÓûÂþɬ Council (Roslin Crescent)(Temporary Prohibition of waiting) Order 2025 From a point in line with the gable wall of property No 63 Roslin Crescent extended in a southwesterly then westerly direction to a point in line with rear of property No 36 Roslin Crescent for a distance of 30 metres or thereby. Between 0000 on Third of March 2025 to the 2359 Third of September 2026
ÓûÂþɬ Council (B8073 Rockfield road, Tobermory)(Temporary prohibition of traffic) Order 2025 That length of B8073 Rockfield Road, Tobermory, from its junction with B882 extending in a westerly south-easterly direction to its Junction with Riverside Court for a distance of 387 metres or thereby.

When indicated by signs, from 0001 on 3rd of February 2025 to 2359 on 4th July 2025, or until the works are complete, whichever is the earlier.

ÓûÂþɬ COuncil (B8001 Claonaig)(Temporary 10mph speed restriction)(No.2) Order 2024 That length of the B8001 Claonaig from a point 130 metres south east of its junction with the B842 extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of 250 metres  From 2359 hours on 25th July 2024 until 2359 hours on 7th September 2025
ÓûÂþɬ Council (C70 Glen Fruin, Helensburgh)(Temporary prohibition of traffic) Order 2024 That length of C70 Glen Fruin, Helensburgh, from junction with A814 Dumbarton-Arrochar Road in a Easterly then Southerly direction to its junction with A818 Sinclair Street for a distance of 11.24 Kilometres or thereby. 2359 on 7th of February 2024 to 2359 on 16th July 2025

That length of the Strachur-Colintraive Road (Route A866) from the extended south-west kerbline of the Cairndow-Strachur-Toward Road (Route A815) extending in a south westerly direction to a point 75 metres or thereby south-west of the extended south-west kerbline of Letters Housing Scheme Road a distance of 1600 metres or thereby.

 

ÓûÂþɬ Council (Route A849, Isle of Mull)(Bunessan Primary Schools)(Part-time 20mph speed limit)(Variation) Order 202_

That length of the Salen-Craignure-Iona Ferry Road (Route A849) adjacent to Lochdonhead Primary School, Lochdonhead, Isle of Mull, extending from a point 22 metres or thereby southwest of the extended centreline of the Gorten Road (No 13) south-westerly to a point 20m southwest of the extended centre line of Swan Drive,  for a distance of 465 metres or thereby.

Abnormal Loads

An ‘abnormal load’ is a vehicle that has any of the following:

  • a weight of more than 44,000 kilograms
  • an axle load of more than 10,000 kilograms for a single non-driving axle and 11,500 kilograms for a single driving axle
  • a width of more than 2.9 metres
  • a rigid length of more than 18.65 metres

If you’re responsible for transporting an abnormal load, you need to follow regulations for notifying the authorities.

Before a large or heavy load can travel on the road, we need to check that there are no problems with the route it proposes to take.  If you wish to move such a load in Argyll & Bute, or for any further information, please contact abnormalloads@argyll-bute.gov.uk with the following details:

  • route proposed
  • date of journey
  • vehicle sizes
  • vehicle weight and axle configuration

Mull Roads Weight Restrictions

An exemption system has been introduced permitting vehicles with a plated MGW greater than a particular roads restriction to travel along such a road provided the GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT (GVW) does not exceed the route MGW restriction.  Applications can be made here
