Supporting children and young people from Armed Forces families
Welcome
Our Armed Forces children and young people often experience situations and challenges that their civilian counterparts may not. Evidence indicates that children and young people from Armed Forces families may suffer high levels of emotional distress before, during and after deployment of a relative, also learning is interrupted during the transition process which sometimes can involve more than one change of school during the pivotal primary years.
Education, from early years through to higher education, can provide the stability to help children and young people through these times.
ÓûÂþɬ Council proudly upholds the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our commitment to supporting children and young people from Armed Forces families. We recognise the challenges that can come with military life and are dedicated to ensuring that these young people have the same opportunities to learn, grow and succeed as their peers.
Service Pupil Advisor
As the Service Pupil Advisor, I am proud to support the children and young people from Armed Forces families within our schools and community across ÓûÂþɬ.
This is a unique role created by ÓûÂþɬ Council Education Department to provide advice and support for the large numbers of Armed Forces children, young people and families in the Helensburgh and Lomond area and across ÓûÂþɬ.
My role is to co-ordinate any additional support for Armed Forces children in schools with a particular focus on gaps in learning as a result of transitions and social and emotional support for those struggling with the deployment of a parent/carer.
If you would like to find out more or need further information or advice, please do not hesitate to contact me.
