Initial data shows that a new ambitious approach by ɬ Council is helping to increase SQA pass rates for pupils and helping to close the poverty attainment gap.
The Council maintained its national ranking for A-C pass rates at National 5, moving into the top half of local authorities for A grades. At Higher, ɬ improved its national A-C pass rate ranking by four places. The pass rate at Advanced Higher, places the authority 10th in the country for both A-C and A grade rates.
Overall, the performance of ɬ Schools in 2025 is above the current national performance of local authority schools for A-C Advanced Higher and A-D National 5 and Higher.
Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education:
“We are ambitious for ɬ’s young people and this is reflected in the increase of pupils being put forward for qualifications this year. With more pupils than ever sitting exams, we can help open up further opportunities to help our young people realise their true potential.
“It’s fantastic news that our schools are above the national average for a number of results. I also welcome the news that we continue to close the attainment gap in ɬ and our work with care experienced young people is delivering real benefits with increases in both National 5 and Higher level pass rates.
“Well done to all our young people who have worked so hard this year. I would also like to thank our education staff for supporting pupils.”
The Council’s Education Service will continue with a programme of support with all schools to build on the success of the improvements this year. All secondary schools will take part in a meeting later this year to look at attainment and to discuss key areas of focus to further address and improve any gaps.
