Public event - Help shape the future of Helensburgh and Cardross

ɬ Council is inviting local communities to attend a drop-in event later this month and help shape a long-term vision for the future of Helensburgh and Cardross.

With its proximity and connectivity to the central belt, the wider Helensburgh area has been identified as a key area for growth in the council’s Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2). To support this, work is now underway to develop a Strategic Development Framework (SDF) that will guide sustainable development over the next 20 to 40 years.

This framework will explore how best to support future population growth while protecting the area’s natural assets. It will consider the infrastructure needed—such as schools, transport links, and housing—and how to balance development with the preservation of the key features of the green belt and scenic environment.

Initial discussions have already taken place with local community councils, and now the wider community is invited to get involved at an event in Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre on 26 November between 4pm and 7:30pm. . This event will offer residents the chance to find out more, ask questions, and share their views on the future of the area.

The council has appointed independent planning and urban design experts, Stantec, to support the development of the framework.

Council Leader, Councillor Jim Lynch, said: “This is an opportunity for us to work together to shape a future that reflects the needs and aspirations of the Helensburgh and Cardross communities.

“By planning ahead, we can ensure growth is sustainable, well-managed, and enhances the quality of life for everyone who lives in the area.”
