ɬ large-scale projects update

Regenerating town centres, developing economic opportunities for the area across film, creative industry and renewable sectors, and working with key partners and communities to realise their ambitions - these are just some of the benefits from £100 million of capital investment secured by ɬ Council.

At a meeting of the Environment, Development and Infrastructure Committee today (Thursday), councillors received an update on the progress of the large-scale projects that the council is delivering and/or managing as a result of external grants.

These projects include:

  • Rothesay, Dunoon, Helensburgh, Tarbert and Lochgilphead Regeneration
  • Regeneration Capital Grant Funding - Port Ellen Community Hub, Kilmory Business Park in Lochgilphead, Isle of Luing Community Owned Slate Quarry, Nonhebel Light Industrial Park Expansion on Mull, Ulva Ferry Shore Facilities Building, and Aros Waterfront Development on Mull.
  • The Rural Growth Deal - Rothesay Pavilion, Kintyre Seasports, Enabling Worker Accommodation projects and Highland and Islands Enterprise’s Business Skills programme.
  • Scottish Government Place-Based Investment Funded projects – The Rockfield Centre in Oban, the Victoria Hall in Campbeltown, Helensburgh Outdoor Museum, town centre CCTV upgrades, Shopfront and Business Support, and the redesign of Albert Pier in Rothesay.
  • Scottish Crown Estate Revenue Allocation Funding - Inveraray Avenue Screen refurbishment, Rock Slope Protection in Gallanach Road, Oban, Tarbert Heritage and Place Programme, CARS shopfront improvements, the Victoria Hall in Campbeltown (repair and refurbish entire front elevation), and investment in Dunoon public realm.
  • Empty Business Property Grant Scheme

Earlier this year, councillors also agreed a list of projects to be submitted for funding from the Community Regeneration Partnership and we are awaiting a decision from the UK Government on what projects will be supported.

Councillor Jim Lynch, the council’s Policy Lead for Economic Development, Islands and Rural Communities, Housing, said:

“This is a huge investment for ɬ, and it will have a substantial impact on our local economy. These are all significant projects that will leave a lasting legacy and will help create opportunities, support local enterprise, and assist communities in building a thriving and sustainable future for the area.”
