Refurbishment work is about to start on play parks around Helensburgh and Lomond, thanks to a £280,000 share of £938,000 of funding, allocated to ɬ, by the Scottish Government.
Sutcliffe Play has been awarded the contract to refurbish several of the play parks and work will commence in the following sites on these dates:
- Cove and Redgauntlet - week commencing 2 February
- Howie and Hermitage - w eek commencing 16February
- Rhu and Cardross - week commencing 23 February
- Garelochhead and Kirkmichael - week commencing 2 March
Hags has been awarded the contract for work on Kidston play park and refurbishment will also begin there shortly.
The funding will enable the parks to have damaged equipment replaced with new, more accessible features so that equipment is more user-friendly, and safety features are enhanced such as softer ground surfaces.
The Council worked closely with local community councils to ensure the equipment meets with the needs of the children and young people who will use it. It has been chosen to promote health and wellbeing, as well as simply to have fun.
The parks will need to be closed, for safety reasons, while work is carried out. It is being done at a time which should cause as little disruption to play time as possible.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said:
“The input from the community throughout the consultation and commissioning processes shows just how important the wellbeing of the younger members of our local communities are. What we will have, very soon, are places where they can meet up with their friends, have fun on and enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity.”
A further £60,000 of work for play parks in Tarbet and Arrochar has still to be finalised.
