The exchange of rings is a tradition that has been practiced for many years but it is not a compulsory part of the ceremony.

Couples can also exchange gifts if they prefer or they do not need to exchange anything.

Readings are one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to personalise your wedding ceremony.

Whether it is a favourite poem, a passage from a book, something funny that reflects your personalities, or words that hold special meaning to you as a couple readings help tell your story in a truly personal way.
Some couples choose to ask family members or friends to do a reading, creating a lovely moment for those closest to them to be part of the ceremony. Others prefer their registrar to read on their behalf and that can be just as special.
There are no rules about what your ceremony should look like. The most important thing is that it feels right for you.

You can ask a family member or guest to tell the story of your life together so far, this can include how you met, how you were proposed to or what your plans for the future may be.

There are many ways you may like to remember loved ones on your day

The Registrar can include as part of your ceremony a thank you to those who have travelled from away for attending or someone who has helped with the all the arrangements.
